At ELTHAM we have a number of co-curricular activities, clubs, ensembles, choirs, bands and productions that allow students to express themselves and CREATE with others.
ART CLUB
Come and be creative and hands on at lunchtime by joining the co-curricular activity Art Club. This activity is capped at 10 students per term.
Available for students in Year 7 – 12.
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 2025
The Artist Spotlight is a unique bi-annual musical event where students through audition or invite present the music of a well-known artist. So far, the artists presented at ELTHAM have been Carole King, Leonard Cohen, Aretha Franklin and Paul Kelly.
Available for students in Year 9 – 12.
CANTARE CHOIR
Cantare is an auditioned chamber vocal ensemble for students in Year 7 – 9. Students who are accepted into Cantare must already be participating in the general Year 7 – 12 choir – Harmoni. Cantare allows students to sing in multiple parts and usually has somewhere between 10 – 16 members each year.
Available for students in Year 7 – 9.
CHAMBER ENSEMBLE
The Chamber Ensemble is an invitation only ensemble that provides an opportunity for our advanced classical musicians to play chamber music.
Available for students in Year 5 – 12.
CLARINET ENSEMBLE
The Clarinet Ensemble caters to any student who has started learning the clarinet. It is a chance to learn to play with other players in a small and supportive environment.
Available for students in Year 3 – 12.
CONCERT BAND – INTERMEDIATE
The Intermediate Concert Band is for students who have established the basic foundations of their instrument and are looking to extend their musicianship through joining an ensemble. This ensemble plays concert band music of an intermediate standard and is led by woodwind teacher, Melissa Lee. Students who are enjoying exploring instrumental music in the Year 7 Band Program are encouraged to join Intermediate Band at any stage during the year.
Available for students in Year 6 – 8.
FLUTE ENSEMBLE
The Flute Ensemble is open to any student who plays the flute. The ELTHAM College Flute Ensemble explores a range of diverse styles through the voice of the flute. Repertoire includes arrangements of well-known pieces from classical, jazz and pop genres. Through weekly rehearsals and performance opportunities students will develop ensemble skills while improving their flute playing in a fun and supportive learning environment.
Available for students in Year 3 – 8 and Year 10 – 12.
JUNIOR SCHOOL ART CLUB
Students who choose to partake in JS Art Club – Wednesday choose an art project to explore for the term. They plan, design and create it.
Available for students in Year 1 – 6.
JUNIOR THEATRE CLUB
Theatre Club will allow students in Years 2 – 6 the opportunity to look at scripts and scenes, take on new characters and perform in front of others. Each week, small excerpts will be available for students to choose and work on developing. Students will be given tips on memorising and delivering lines, as well as vocal and movement coaching. Theatre club will help develop both performance and expressive skills and confidence.
Available for students in Year 2 – 6.
JUNIOR WINDS
The Junior Winds caters to brass and woodwind instrumentalists. It is a chance for beginning students to step up to perform approachable and fun pieces and advance with other players in a supportive environment.
Available for students in Year 3 – 7.
MEDIA & MARKETING TEAM
The student Media and Marketing Team will learn to develop skills and techniques in the coverage of College events - from sport, student activities, camps, concerts, etc, - capturing moments through photography and through video. They will create engaging articles that complement the visual content, and their work will be used on the College's social media platforms and website.
Available for students in Year 6 – 12.
GUITAR ENSEMBLE
The Guitar Ensemble is open to any student who learns the guitar. The Guitar Ensemble is for all guitarists of varying standards. Be it acoustic, electric or bass guitar.
Available for students in Year Prep – 12.
HARMONI CHIOR
Harmoni is open to any student in Year 7 – 12. A great environment to join with other singers, make some new friends and sing in parts together. This choir is the main Senior School Choir and has up to 50 members each year.
Available for students in Year 7 – 12.
INTERMEDIATE STRING ENSEMBLE
The Intermediate String Ensemble is for students from Year 5 – 8 who learn a stringed instrument and are looking to improve their playing through joining an ensemble. This ensemble explores string orchestra repertoire of an intermediate standard and is led by cellist Darcy Gilkerson. Through rehearsing and performing in this ensemble students will develop musicianship skills such as blend, intonation and sight reading.
Available for students in Year 5 – 8.
ONE VOICE CHOIR 2025
One Voice Choir is a choir that is formed on a bi-annual basis to participate in the 'One Voice' Concert. The choir is made up of students, staff, parents and alumni. The student choir leaders from Harmoni teach the songs and conduct the choir in the concert. Expressions of interest and auditions will be held in Term 2 2025.
ORFF ENSEMBLE
The Orff Ensemble is for students from Year 3 – 6. This ensemble is designed to advance students' reading, aural, playing and performance skills. It is an ensemble that includes both unpitched and pitched percussion instruments such as Xylophones, Metallophones, Glokenspiels and the recorder. Within this ensemble, we work on a variety of different popular songs with multi-instrumental and textural parts.
Available for students in Year 3 – 6.
PAGANINI STRINGS
Paganini Strings is a junior string ensemble led by violinist Emma Amery. Whether you are relatively new to playing music or are an experienced instrumentalist having private lessons – if you learn a stringed instrument and are in Year 1, 2, 3 or 4 this ensemble is for you. Paganini Strings plays string orchestra repertoire, which includes art music from ancient times through to today. Parts are arranged by the conductor to ensure that all performers in the group get to play music that is appropriate to their level. Students playing string instruments in the Year 1 – 4 programs are encouraged to join this ensemble to consolidate and refine their musicianship skills in this ensemble.

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE – JUNIOR
The Percussion Ensemble - Junior is open to students in Year 3 – 6. Must be learning percussion. This ensemble is for our young percussionists who will begin to learn the importance of accurate timing when playing in a group. A fun ensemble where you can make friends with other percussion students and play some music together.

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE – INTERMEDIATE
Percussion Ensemble - Intermediate is for our intermediate age percussionists who will have had some experience playing in a group. This ensemble is an extension for those taking percussion lessons looking to fine tune the skills of playing with others. Directed by percussion teacher, Richard Neville.
Available for students in Year 7 – 10.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE – SENIOR
Percussion Ensemble - Senior is for our most senior and experienced percussionists. The ensemble plays some advanced pieces with complex rhythms and parts. Directed by percussion teacher, Richard Neville.

ROCK JAM
Students are required to audition to be a part of Rock Jam - open to students in Year 9 – 12. Our most senior Rock Band at the school. This band will have a different line up of instruments each year depending on the students involved. Playing everything from classic hits through to current

SOUND & VISION CLUB
Sound & Vision Club allows students to participate in activities ranging from Digital Photography, Film Production and Appreciation, Sound Production and Design, Podcasting, and DJ mixing skills.
Available for students in Year 7 – 11.
SEWING 101
Sewing 101 caters to students in Year 5 to 6, offering an engaging platform to develop fundamental hand sewing skills. In this hands-on club, students learn the basics of hand sewing, threading, and stitching techniques. This club not only nurtures creativity but also instils practical life skills. Students gain an understanding of fabric manipulation, pattern reading, and garment construction, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance. Beyond the technical aspects, Sewing 101 promotes teamwork and patience as students collaborate on projects. Through this co-curricular, students not only discover the joy of creating but also develop a foundation for future textile endeavours.
Please note: Sewing 101 must be capped at a maximum of 12 students at any one time.

SEWING CLUB
Sewing Club for students in Year 1 to 4, focuses on introducing the art of hand sewing. In a supportive and creative environment, children learn basic sewing techniques and develop their fine motor skills. They engage in various craft projects, such as making stuffed animals, small felt crafts, and simple clothing accessories. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, students practice threading needles, knotting threads, and executing basic stitches like the running stitch and blanket stitch. Through this club, young learners cultivate their creativity, patience, and problem-solving abilities while gaining a sense of accomplishment from completing their handmade crafts. Please note: Sewing Club must be capped at a maximum of 15 students at any one time.

SIDEWINDER
Sidewinder is a jazz band/ensemble who perform classic jazz standards and other jazz music under the direction of our Director of Music, Aaron Searle.
Available for students in Year 7 – 12.
SONGSTERS
Songsters is our youngest choir, open to any student in Year 1 – 3. A fun place to learn the fundamentals of singing in a group.
Available for students in Year 1 – 3.
SUARA
Suara is an auditioned chamber vocal ensemble for students in Year 10 - 12. Students who are accepted into Suara must already be participating in the general Year 7 – 12 choir - Harmoni. Suara is the most senior and advanced vocal ensemble at ELTHAM. As a small chamber group Suara sings complex pieces in multiple parts.

TECH CLUB
Gain hands on experience with sound, lighting and vision equipment in Tech Club as we learn how we can creatively use technology across theatrical performances, live music and other multimedia productions.
Available for students in Year 5 – 11.
VOCI
Voci is a Choir for students in Year 4 – 6. The choir rehearses once a week and will perform in a variety of concerts throughout the year. Students learn to sing pieces in unison and 2 - 3 parts, and are taught music reading and aural skills.

WAGNER CONCERT BAND
The Wagner Concert Band is named after long time ELTHAM Director of Music, Rob Wagner. You must be proficient on your instrument to play in this ensemble. The Wagner Concert Band plays a variety of music and is led by woodwind teacher, Vincent Bradley.
Available for students in Year 7 – 12.
YEAR 3 – 6 ROCK BAND
The Year 3 – 6 Rock Band is open to students by audition. Numbers are restricted. This fun-filled Rock Band is made up of some of our youngest singers and instrumentalists, including guitarists, pianists, drummers etc. Here they learn how to play together and listen to one another in a band.
Available for students in Year 3 – 6.
YEAR 5 – 9 PRODUCTION
Each year ELTHAM has a Year 5 – 9 Production. The production is staged in the Clarke Auditorium during the month of October. The 2024 production will be announced at the Production Information Evening held in February. Auditions are held in August. The rehearsal period is from August 18 to October 24.
Available for students in Year 5 – 9.
YEAR 9 – 12 MUSICAL
Each year ELTHAM has a Year 9 - 12 Musical. The production is staged in the Clarke Auditorium during the month of May. The 2024 production will be announced at the Production Information Evening held in February. Auditions are held in February. The rehearsal period is from March 3 to May 23.
Available for students in Year 9 – 12.
YEAR 7 ROCK BAND
The Year 7 Rock Band is open to Year 7 singers and instrumentalists who love rock music. Interested musicians must audition for the group which highlights some of our most talented Year 7’s! Depending on popularity there may be more than one band created to allow maximum student participation. This group offers students a chance to learn the skills of collaborating with others in a rock band context through playing a broad repertoire that includes chart topping contemporary pop and rock songs.
Available for students in Year 7.

Students are required to audition to be a part of the Year 8 Rock Band. Singers and instrumentalists from Year 8 come together to form a Rock Band. This group focuses on creating a true band sound and explore classic hits and current chart toppers.
