We are marking International Women’s Day 2023 by celebrating the ambitions, experiences, talents, and achievements of ELTHAM girls who have and will become inspirational women.
Because central to our ethos at ELTHAM is that school is a place not just of academic learning and excellence, but also of life learning. Here, during those formative years from Early Learning through to Year 12, we aim to nurture real world-ready individuals, eager to embrace what their future holds — women who are curious of mind, authentic of heart and daring of spirit.
We believe in practising what we preach. We consciously create the world we want to live in, one that celebrates girls and women and empowers them to achieve their aspirations in life, whatever they may be. When our graduates leave us, they carry that confidence, those lessons, and that unyielding agency with them to better the world beyond.
It looks like a co-educational environment, which better reflects the diversity of our society and life after school, giving students the confidence to express their views freely in any company they keep.
It looks like gender-neutral bathrooms, which help to nurture a culture that insists on safety, inclusion and acceptance.
It looks like a first-name basis policy, which fosters personal, trusting, respectful relationships between all people on campus, encouraging students to take charge of their learning, to open conversations and to engage in open debate from a more equal footing.
It looks like a staff of strong women, who demonstrate how students can become their best through the lessons they teach every day, whether academic or holistic.
May we continue to teach one another — girls and women, students and staff — to #embraceequity this International Women’s Day.
On that note, we are turning to some of our current and past students to share with us their thoughts on this year’s International Women’s Day theme, #embraceequity.
