About the Performing Musician
The Performing Musician is an innovative music education program from one of Australia’s leading jazz identities in collaboration with ELTHAM College – growing hearts and minds.
Steve is one of Melbourne’s foremost jazz musicians, known as a leading pianist, arranger of jazz projects, and educator. Steve’s passion for teaching jazz as well as his unique hands-on approach uses the best of both worlds – combining the relevant and necessary theory of music with the practicalities of performance experience. His past 25 years as a player, composer, nightclub director and teacher have made him a cornerstone of the local scene, leading his long-running outfit Mistaken Identity, and helping newcomers such as Paris Wells and the Cat Empire find their own paths.
In 2019, ELTHAM College, in collaboration with Steve Sedergreen, is offering a number of opportunities to secondary school and tertiary aged musicians. These programs are designed to extend and challenge young musicians, enhance their learning and stimulate them to create their own unique musical identities. The short courses and holiday workshops also afford young people the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other like-minded musicians, thus building networks and community.
