Girls AFL at ELTHAM in the Media Spotlight
This November newspaper The Age reported on the explosion in popularity of AFL among girls in Victorian schools.
As more and more young women choose to play, and excel in, Australian Rules Football, single-sex girls schools in many cases do not have the large ovals and other facilities to support their students’ desire to play.
ELTHAM College featured in the analysis, as a school that has the facilities and is seeing their girls AFL team thrive.
Great to see parent Andrea Meagher and daughter Maddy give a small insight into their story at ELTHAM College.
Maddison is now one of the state’s most promising female footballers, representing Victoria at this year’s School Sport Australia 15 years and under Australian football championships. “I made the all-Australian, so I really hope that [the AFLW] becomes a pathway for me,” she said.
