Alumni Association News

Cherry Demir (Class of 1992) has stepped down from her position of President of the ELTHAM College Alumni Association. She will remain a member of the committee but will focus her time on growing the Alumni Music and Performing Group (ECAMP).

Cherry, parent of Sirin (Year 2), Koray (Class of 2017) and Ceyda (Class of 2019), delivered her final President’s report at the recent AGM. It was wonderful to reflect on how much the Alumni Association has achieved under Cherry’s leadership.

Here is an excerpt from Cherry’s speech:

“It has been an absolute privilege to be involved and help lead our Alumni Association in 2019. The enthusiasm, community connections and dedication by our members and school community has been a truly inspiring attribute that has remained strong.

I would like to thank my fellow committee members that have shown great dedication and passion for the College. I look forward to seeing our strength grow and initiatives nourish our commitment to our community.”

Introducing our incoming President and Vice President

Naomi Taranto (Class of 2016) and Nathan Jasper (Class of 2017)

President Naomi Taranto

I am very excited to have been appointed as the Alumni Association’s President for 2020/2021. After my term as Vice President last year and general committee member for the past three years, I am looking forward to working with the Alumni Association to engage and support past students, parents and staff to remain connected to ELTHAM College through a diverse range of vibrant events and services that drive a sense of community.

During my time at the College, I undertook the role of College Captain. I look back on this role with great memories and lessons I have taking into both my current leadership and career opportunities. I am passionate about working with Year 12 students to ensure they remain connected to their peers and to support them as they transition from high school into their future endeavours.

I am currently in my final year of a double Bachelor’s degree in Public Health and International Development at La Trobe University. I’m looking forwards to moving into the global health and humanitarian aid workforce upon the completion of my degree in 2021. My role as the President of the La Trobe Public Health Students Association has helped me develop excellent communication and leadership skills.

I look forward to developing these skills whilst concurrently building the capacity of our committee and diversifying the Alumni Association’s reach in the next 12 months.

Vice President Nathan Jasper

Since graduating as part of the Class of 2017, I have been passionate about giving back to the ELTHAM College community, as it provided me with so many opportunities and personal development during my high school years.

During my time at the school, I held a diverse range of roles including College Vice Captain, Wilderness Camp Leader and Captain of the Senior Football Team.

I am currently studying a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Commerce at La Trobe University, as well as a Diploma in Language (Chinese). As Treasurer for the La Trobe Law Students’ Association and as part of an Ernst & Young development program, I have been equipped with a multitude of transferrable skills which I intend to utilise in my new role with the Alumni Association.

Alongside our impressive new committee, I look forward to developing the Alumni’s operations to connect further and support members of the broad ELTHAM College community.
