International Student wins Global Citizenship Award for 2015

By elthamcollege | In ELTHAM College, News and updates | on May 17, 2016

We are thrilled to announce that ELTHAM College Year 12 student LIU Jixingzi (Cyn) has been presented with the Year 11 Global Citizenship Award for 2015, as part of the Victorian International School Student Awards Program.

The annual Victorian International School Student Awards reward outstanding achievement and recognise and honour the unique, valuable and diverse contribution made by international students to the schools sector in Victoria. The awards are open to all international students in Years 11 and 12 in Victorian independent, Catholic and government schools.

Cyn’s influence as a positive role model for all students was evident from her early days at ELTHAM College. Cyn brings to her studies a conscientious and motivated approach to her learning and a passion for acquiring knowledge. She combines this with her passion to promote the importance of local and international students developing a deeper understanding of other cultures. She has a wide range of interests and ideas and she inspires others with her infectious love of life and care for others.

IMG_1201_1As a finalist in the awards Cyn was invited, along with her Homestay mother, Lachelle Radojcic, Franceen Challons (International Liaison Officer) and Margie Jordan (International Student Mentor), to attend the Awards Ceremony on Friday 13 May. The ceremony was held in the grand and beautiful Parliament House in Melbourne. Cyn said it was her first time visiting this building and she thought it was very impressive! Guests were all delighted with the fabulous food and service offered, which impressively catered to the over 150 people in attendance. Cyn enjoyed meeting some like-minded international students from other schools, and many important delegates, and overall found the event and the ceremony itself very affirming in regards to her efforts and passions in this area.

“When I won the award, I felt very happy and very proud. I also realised that I must be doing something right at school to assist with eliminating the gap between different cultures. I now feel encouraged and confident to continue my activities. I’m really honoured to be the recipient, and offer great thanks to everyone at ELTHAM College who supported me during this time.”

We congratulate Cyn on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to seeing what further success awaits her.
