General Excellence (Music) Scholarships

Scholarships for General Excellence (Music) are offered to new and current students entering Years 5, 7, 8 and 9 in 2020 who demonstrate outstanding musical ability and achievement in music (instrumental/choral) within and/or beyond the context of school.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an online application, the results of a scholarship examination, a panel audition and interview.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to audition for, and interview with, our selection panel. Further shortlisted applicants will be invited, together with their families, to attend an interview with the Principal.

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.

Criteria

The following AMEB levels and recommendations are intended as an indication of the expected standard of scholarship applicants. The AMEB grades are not prerequisites for application and students will not be excluded from applying if they have not completed any AMEB exams.

Year 5
Learning an instrument for at least 2 years
Choral scholarship applicants – at least one year choral experience

Year 7 – 8
Cello, piano, flute, clarinet, violin, saxophone – Grade 3 AMEB or equivalent
All other instruments – Grade 2 AMEB or equivalent
Choral scholarship applicants – at least two years choral experience

Year 9
Cello, piano, flute, clarinet, violin, saxophone – Grade 5 AMEB or equivalent
All other instruments – Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent
Choral scholarship applicants – Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent

Application Process

Step 1
All applicants are required to sit a scholarship examination. Please apply online via Edutest before the closing date (applications not currently open).

Step 2
Please complete the ELTHAM College online application before the closing date (applications not currently open).

Applicants for the General Excellence (Music) Scholarship will be required to submit a video recording as part of their online application.

Applications close: Friday 15 February 2019

Scholarship Examination (all applicants): Saturday 23 February 2019
Interviews and Auditions: Please note that interviews and auditions for shortlisted applicants will be held within 3 weeks of the scholarship examination. Dates will vary depending upon the scholarship(s) being applied for.
